Starting from Emsworth Square, the children went on horse drawn brakes (four wheels) each pulled by two horses. The break called Violet was the most popular. A horse and cart was used to bring tressle tables, water and material to start a fire so that tea could be served. Others brought rope to set up swings in the trees. A local sweet shop owner set up her stall and the children would play Scrambles - who could get the most sweets. The barrel for water was kept in the shed of the local Bill Poster.
